Jef and I are giddy every week to pick up our farm stash from Catalpa Ridge CSA.
CSA stands for community supported agriculture, and I don't know about where you are, but this type of program is positively blowing up around me!
(Still, "csa" is one of the few terms I've googled in which no wikipedia link greets me on the first page!)
How exciting to fill our bags every week with fresh-from-the-farm produce from a local harvest. We also get weekly updates from the farmer about how our crops are doing (the perpetual rain has not been helping!), what animals are hanging around the fields, etc.
Above are the first treasures we were sent: spinach, garlic greens, dill, Texas super sweet onions, watercress, rhubarb, and lettuce. Last week our inventory included some gorgeous hot pink radishes and beany-smelling fava greens. We're going to pick up stash #3 tomorrow so you can see how behind I am on this blog!
I have so much to catch you up on; I'm currently on media-deprivation for a workshop I'm taking with Julia Cameron, but I'll be back next week and posting much more regularly. So please check back for more details about my csa and the recipes I've concocted with the veggies, farm reports, and more exciting foodstuff!
